This self-paced experience is perfect for families or anyone looking to enjoy fresh air and the outdoors. The garden enthusiast will enjoy tropical flowers and plants year round and will appreciate the design and color patterns throughout all 38 acres. Paved walkways are available for mobility impaired and plenty of sitting nooks are scattered throughout. Wildlife roams freely, so guests will enjoy being accompanied peacocks, hens and much more.
What to Wear
We suggest that guests wear comfortable shoes. High heels are not recommended as the property is quite expansive. In the summer months our climate is very warm. We do suggest cool, comfortable clothes. Our winters are mild, but occasionally it does get cold so please be prepared.
We do not recommend using rideshare services to get to Houmas House from surrounding metropolitan cities. This is a rural area and you will not have a ride back.
Houmas House is a historic estate located near New Orleans in Darrow, Louisiana. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 7pm. At Houmas House, visitors can tour the mansion and grounds, stay in the inn, enjoy Louisiana cuisine, and host one-of-a-kind weddings and events.
